Professor Tim Clutton-Brock is a leading behavioural ecologist whose research embraces the broad fields of behavioural ecology, evolutionary ecology and population ecology. He has been an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria’s Mammal Research Institute for the last ten years and has conducted extensive individual-based field studies on red deer, soay sheep, Kalahari meerkats, banded mongooses and pied babblers .

Another successful academic chapter was concluded this week when a total of 2 744 graduates received their degrees and diplomas during the University of Pretoria’s Spring Graduation Ceremonies.

Apart from an honorary doctorate to Prof Timothy Clutton-Brock, the university awarded another 111 doctorates, 336 master’s and 1 152 honours degrees since Wednesday. The Spring Graduation Ceremonies are traditionally smaller than the annual graduations in autumn.

South African Moshal Scholarship Event

Mr Martin Moshal, founder of the Moshal Scholarship Fund recently addressed more than 200 students at the annual South African Moshal Scholarship Event. The University of Pretoria has ten students in this programme, eight of whom are Veterinary Science students. Ms Linda van Wyk, Deputy Director of Advancement and her guest, Mrs Melodie Wheeler, Deputy Director from the Client Service Centre were invited to a gala dinner to listen, and to meet the Moshal family. A representative of the 197 students on the Israel Scholarship Program also attended the event. It was part of a weekend where students attended various skills-development workshops and could also interact with Martin on a one-on-one basis.

“I wanted to educate my children in Africa, but I also wanted to send them to a world-class university. That is why they attended the University of Pretoria.”
This is the sentiments of Prof Jumanne Maghembe, Tanzanian Minister of Water, when he attended the first of the University’s Spring Graduation Ceremonies for 2013 on Wednesday. The minister and his wife proudly witnessed their son, Ngwaru Maghembe receive his doctorate (LLD) in Mercantile law. Another of their children, Ms Namvumo Maghembe, a UP graduate in International Relations, also attended.
