Department of Early Childhood Education

Welcome to the Department of Early Childhood Education

Young children who receive the right preparation during early childhood are equipped with the expertise needed to develop early literacy and reading skills, early numeracy and basic life skills. The Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) trains educators in this challenging field from undergraduate up to postgraduate level.

The ECE Department offers the BEd (Early Childhood and Foundation Phase studies) degree. Students that have already obtained a Baccalaureus qualification can enroll for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). The Department is working towards offering a BEd (Hons) degree in two years’ time. Most modules are offered in both English and Afrikaans. The ECE Department caters for students from the whole of South Africa, the Southern African Development Community and overseas countries.
