Mathematics and Applied Mathematics The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics grew from its humble beginnings in 1913, with only 38 students, to one of the biggest departments on campus, with more than 12000 students enrolled for mathematics modules. The diverse and competent staff corps boasts expertise in a variety of fields. The Department prides itself in excelling in both its teaching and research activities as well in community based activities.

The Exceptional Achievers Function for the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences was held on 8 May 2013 in the Sanlam Auditorium. Hearty congratulations to all the prizewinners from the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics
At a function on 24 April, the University of Pretoria has recognised Professor Lubuma for the third time as Exceptional Achiever (2013-2015). At the same occasion Professor Lubuma was also awarded a certificate for his contribution to the research standing of the University after achieving a B2 rating from the NRF.
