Postgraduate Research Guide

Honours level:
BEng Hons. Industrial (12240011)

Students with an appropriate South African BEng degree who have achieved an average of at least 50% during the final year may apply for admission to the BEng Hons. degree. International students with an apporpriate BEng degree who have achieved an average of at least 60% during the final year may apply for admission to the BEng Hons. The postgraduate curriculum is based on whether a student has completed undergraduate studies in Industrial Engineering or not. Duration of course: 1 year full time or 2 years part time. A total credit count of 128 credits or eight 16 credit subjects.

BSc Hons. Applied Science Industrial Systems (12243011)

South African students with an appropriate BSc or BTech degree who have achieved on average at least 65% during the final year may apply for the Applied Science honours degree. International students with an average of at least 65% during the final year will be considered by the Head of the Department. Duration of course: 1 year full time or 2 years part time. A total credit count of 128 credits or eight 16 credit subjects.

Masters level: MEng Industrial (12250011)

All students achieving at least 60% on average for an appropriate BEng Hons. degree may apply for admission to the degree, the following module is required: BIR 890 Dissertation (Eng). Prerequisite: Research Methodology. Students may only register for the module once a research proposal has been submitted, presented and approved by the Postgraduate Committee during a colloquium.

MSc Industrial Systems (12253011)

All students achieving at least 65% on average for an appropriate BSc Hons. Appl. Sc. Industrial Systems degree may apply for admission to the degree, the following module is required: BIR 891 Dissertation. Prerequisite: Research Methodology. Students may only register for the module once a research proposal has been submitted, presented and approved by the Postgraduate Committee during a colloquium.


Doctorate level:

Preparation of a Thesis is required by the student based on his/her own independent and original research as a positive contribution towards the development of science and the existing body of knowledge of the subject. The requirements for the thesis are based on, but not limited to, the requierments for a dissertation, with the important addition of the student's ability to prove that he/she can plan, initiate, and execute independent and original research.
 
PhD Industrial Engineering (12263001)

All students with an appropriate MEng degree may apply for admission to the degree. Students may only register for the module once a research proposal has been submitted, presented and approved by the Postgraduate Committee during a colloquium. 

PhD Industrial Systems (12263131)

All students with an appropriate MSc Industrial Systems degree may apply for admission to the degree. Students may only register for the module once a research proposal has been submitted, presented and approved by the Postgraduate Committee during a colloquium.
