Research profile: Prof Yolanda Dreyer
Prof Dreyer is the leader of a project entitled "Gender, power, sexuality and pastoral engagement" along with a doctoral student, Reverend Annelie Botha and research partner Dr Juanita Meyer. Prof Dreyer's research is a book project with the working title of Marriage, sexuality, gays and pastoral engagement. Themes include: Is the Bible good news for human sexuality? “De-centre-ing” sexual difference; The “sanctity” of marriage and its mythological origins, forms and models; Prejudice, homophobia; Heteronormativity, a root of hegemony and internalised homophobia; An inclusive pastoral theological perspective. Dissemination: Guest lecture at the Otterbein University, Westerville, Ohio, USA in May 2011; Keynote address at the International Academy for Practical Theology, Amsterdam June 2011, and a monograph to be published in 2013. Reverend Annelie Botha's research is a PhD entitled "Die hedendaagse Christelike huwelik en pastoraat met vroue" and the title of Dr Meyer's research is "Life history research with adolescent orphans affected by HIV/AIDS and the absence of a father figure: A gender, psycho-social, spiritual perspective".
Joint project of the Centre for Contextual Ministry and Department of Practical Theology on Youth Ministry
The project entitled "Youth ministry and faith development in South Africa" is led by Proff Malan Nel and Yolanda Dreyer. Currently there are 9 participants. Some 8 more will be invited to join. The project will run from 2012 to 2017. The research will focus on Christian education and the integration of education and family ministry. A core team of researchers consisting of people who have obtained doctorates in Youth Ministry and people who are currently working in Youth Ministry on a doctoral or master's level, will participate in a longitudinal research programme. Publications in the form of articles and possibly a book are invisaged.
