About us
The Onderstepoort Animal Rehabilitation Service (OARS) was opened in 2008 and is situated behind the Small Animal clinics. OARS treats animals for a variety of conditions, for example: post-surgical recovery; spinal pathology; muscle and joint problems; geriatric arthritis; obesity plus cardiovascular fitness training.
OARS is run by a veterinary nurse who is a certified animal rehabilitation practitioner, and who works under the direct/indirect supervision of specialised veterinarians to ensure that patients receive optimal treatment.
Available treatments include:
- Cold and heat therapy
- Therapeutic ultrasound
- Electrical stimulation
- Passive range of motion; massage and stretching exercises
- Rhythmic stabilisation and joint compression
- Photizo light therapy
- Heated swimming pool
- Underwater treadmill (partly sponsored by PPS)
