Tuks Creative Student Organisation in the Faculty of Education
Tuks Creative is a student organisation comprising of about 100 members, mostly Education students. Its activities include mime, street theatre, children’s theatre, puppet shows, walking on stilts, folding balloons into animal shapes and fantasy face-painting. The members meet every week to practice new and exciting activities presented by members or other experts.
Every year for the past 14 years the Tuks Creative team helps host the International Creativity Conference and the Creativity Conference for Educators at Klein Kariba. During this week people from all over the world come together to explore new and creative ways of enriching their lives and classrooms. Tuks Creative entertains the conference attendees by taking the load off. The students receive a lot of praise from national and international creativity gurus for their hard work and for creating an atmosphere of excitement, together with the never-ending energy they bring to the conference. Not only do conference delegates gain valuable insight into their own creative capabilities, but so do all the students. From body language instruction to thinking preference information and tools that will come in very handy in their future professions.
Tuks Creative also participates in various festivals, such as KKNK, Innibos, Aardklop and the Cherry Festival in Ficksburg. As part of their community service activities, they present shows at places such as Bramley Children’s Home, Street Children’s Home in Sunnyside, Kalafong Hospital, Oeboentoe Children’s Home, Rainbow Creche and Tekkies Creche.
