  PLAY THERAPY WITH THE TRAUMATISED CHILD

Aim:

  • To enable professionals to understand the child according to her/his developmental level and to communicate with the child in her/his own language (play)
  • To introduce different play techniques as skills in assessment and in therapy with the traumatised child

Course structure and objectives:
Delegates should be able to:

  • know the historical background of the use of play and play therapy techniques in working with children;
  • understand child development;
  • communicate with and make contact with the child client and understand the significance of play;
  • apply certain play therapy techniques in working with children;
  • establish a relationship with the child as a client ;
  • apply certain play therapy techniques with the sick, physically disabled and abused/molested child.

SHORT COURSE ON EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMMES

Aim:

  • To equip EAP-co-ordinators with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to promote the EAP in their work environments

Course structure and objectives:
Delegates should be able to:

  • define and to contextualise the EAP;
  • understand the rationale and functions of the EAP;
  • know and apply the standards of an EAP;
  • understand the role of the EAP-co-ordinator;
  • distinguish between EAP and Organisational Development;
  • know the EAP and the law;
  • do supervisory training within EAP-context;
  • understand the therapeutic component of the EAP;
  • market the EAP and formulate a marketing plan;
  • evaluate the EAP;
  • design an evaluation procedure.

Aim:
  • To provide delegates having a solid base in the EAP field, with advanced knowledge on the commercial components of the EAP. Delegates are equipped to focus on the business aspects of managing their EAPs.
Course structure and objectives:

Delegates sould be able to:
  • Administer EAP administration;
  • Understand the business component of the EAP;
  • Apply different pricing models in the EAP field;
  • Design strategies for Return of Investment.

SHORT COURSE ON EMPLOYEE WELLNESS

Aim:

  • To provide delegates with advanced knowledge on Employee Wellness Programmes. Delegates should have professional training and be tasked to promote wellness in the workplace.
Course structure and objectives:
After completion of this course, delegates whould be able to:
  • Conduct a wellness survey;
  • Build a business case for wellness;
  • Gain management support;
  • Serve as a role model;
  • Integrate services and efforts;
  • Monitor and celebrate success.
Admission requirements:

Prospective delegates should at least have a 3-year Bachelors degree or equivalent. Should these not be met, each individual case will be assessed on merit.

SUPERVISION IN THE HELPING PROFESSIONS 

Aim:

  • To empower delegates, supervisors and potential supervisors - employed within non-government organisations, companies, public service departments or service-rendering organisations in the social service professions - with relevant knowledge, skills and attitude concerning Supervision based on appropriate values in the helping professions

SHORT COURSE ON HUMAN-ANIMAL INTERACTIONS (HAI)

Aim:

  • To provide delegates with relevant knowledge and skills to contribute to postitive Human-Animal Interactions (HAI) in the community. Delegates will be equipped to implement Animal-Assisted Therapy and Humane Education Programmes within private practice, government departments, NGO's and other service-providing organisations.
Delegates should have previous professional training, such as in Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, Teaching, Theology, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational-, Physio-, Speech Therapy or Veterinary Science.

SHORT COURSE IN HIV and AIDS COUNSELLING AND MANAGEMENT (presented in conjunction with the Centre for the Study of AIDS, UP)

Aim:

  • To empower counsellors with knowledge and skills to intervene in the challenging field of HIV/AIDS

Course structure and objectives:
Delegates should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the basic facts of HIV/AIDS;
  • demonstrate knowledge and skill in pre- and post-test HIV-counselling;
  • understand the concept of living positively;
  • manage HIV/AIDS in the workplace;
  • understand the psychosocial impact on those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and the role of long-term counselling;
  • demonstrate an understanding of the needs of a person at the “end of life” stage.

  • demonstrate a theoretical understanding of HIV/AIDS-stigma;
  • demonstrate insight in the importance of addressing HIV/AIDS-stigma in the workplace;
  • explore key issues involved in policy and programme development, implementation and monitoring;
  • demonstrate effective stigma mitigation strategies in the workplace;
  • apply the practical tools and training exercises for stigma mitigation.

SHORT COURSE:  LIFE SKILLS IN THE WORKPLACE

Aim

To equip people with skills that will enhance their lives and interpersonal relationships. To provide individuals the opportunity of acquiring new and enhancing existing skills to develop inner abilities to cope with modern day demands within the workplace. The course reduces frustration and enhances general satisfaction and social functioning.
The course is intended for people who work with people, employees, supervisors and managers.
