The Department of Marketing Management hosted Dr Caroline Miltgen, an international visitor from the University of Angers in France, from 17 to 26 September 2012.

The purpose of Dr Miltgen’s visit was to participate in the University of Pretoria’s French Day celebrations on 25 September, and to continue the joint research relationship between Dr Miltgen and Prof Yolanda Jordaan.

As part of UP’s French Day activities, Dr Miltgen and Prof Jordaan attended a cocktail event hosted by His Excellency Mr Jacques Lapouge, the French Ambassador in South Africa, at the French Embassy. Dr Miltgen and Prof Jordaan presented a paper during this event, entitled “Privacy in social network systems: comparing France and South Africa”. This was followed by a special lunch, which included frog legs (ja – regte paddaboudjies!).

The research relationship between the Department of Marketing Management and the University of Angers started this year when Prof Jordaan secured funding from the University of Angers for a visit with the aim to establish research partnerships. Prof Jordaan spent a month in Angers where she partnered with Dr Miltgen to do research on consumer information privacy, which is the research specialisation field of both individuals.
