Seminar: China and the Singapore Model

The Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria invites you to a seminar on the topic of "Avoiding the Modernisation Trap: China and the Singapore Model", to be presented by Prof Mark Thompson on 18 May 2012.
Mark Thompson is director of the Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) and professor of politics at the Department of Asian and International Studies (AIS) at the City University of Hong Kong.
In 2008-2009 he was the Lee Kong Chian Distinguished Fellow at Stanford University and the University of Singapore. His research focuses on East Asian politics. Prof Thompson is the author of, amongst others, Democratic Revolutions: Asia and Eastern Europe (London: Routledge, 2004) and co-editor of Dynasties, Daughters and Democrats. Female Political Leaders in Asia (Hamburg; Lit, 2012 forthcoming).
