Professors Maxi Schoeman and Lorenzo Fioramonti at the Department of Political Sciences were recently awarded a three-year research grant by the European Union as part of the internationally renowned Framework Programme 7.
The funding, which amounts to roughly R2 million, will allow researchers at the Department to collaborate with an international consortium including Johns Hopkins University (USA), Getulio Vargas Foundation (Brazil), University of Lisbon (Portugal) and University of Bath (UK) in a collective study of political, economic and social relations across the shores of the Atlantic. This is the second time in four years that the Department is awarded FP7 funding by the EU, making it one of the top research institutions in this field in the whole African continent.
