Welcome to the SASGPH
The SASGPH [South African Society for Greek Philosophy and the Humanities], which was established in 1997, aims to enhance appreciation for and optimally develop Greek philosophy and the humanities by stimulating academic productivity in these fields through product and project marketability, the building of national and international relations, as well as by emphasising quality in all spheres, be they academic or cultural.
In order to accomplish this mission, the SASGPH organises an international Conference for Greek Philosophy and the Humanities to be held every second year in one of the main centres in South Africa. The topics chosen are relevant and interesting in order to initiate stimulating debates.
One of the major projects of the SASGPH is the approved academic journal, Phronimon, which appears twice per annum and contains highly rated academic contributions from local and international scholars specialising in a variety of disciplines.
The SASGPH is also involved in student development programmes. One of the major objectives of the Society is to give students the opportunity to visit established universities abroad and to encourage postgraduate studies at these establishments.
SASGPH was hosted by UP since its inception and from 2012 onwards Unisa will act as hosting organisation. The Society maintains close ties with UP and other universities
