Juergen’s research project 'Consequences of formal and informal over-indebtedness' looks after the reasons and possible remedies of increasing private indebtedness after introduction of the South African National Credit Act No.34 in 2005.
This study is of generic importance as it reveals the social mechanisms of a legally regulated consumer credit market in a society that suffers from high social inequality, high unemployment, and a high degree of unsteady incomes.

Juergen published his PhD (University of Giessen, Germany) in 2007.
"Die kollektive Erinnerung von Staatsverbrechen" is a discourse analysis of the subsequent parliamentary justification of German Unity in 1990.

Juergen has published on sociology of finance, social theory, commemorative culture, and democratic theory. He has taught many courses from the Bachelor's to the PhD level.
