UP celebrates new, advanced home for plant sciences
UP’s Department of Plant Science, which is already ranked among the world's top institutions according to the ISI Essential Science Indicators, is set to move up further on the ISI scale now that its new complex has been opened officially. At R100 million the new Plant Sciences Complex is design to realise large savings in resources and energy and it brings all the plant-science research fields together under one roof. >Read more...

Tree-planting tradition honoured on Welcoming Day
The University opened its doors for 2012 with the annual Welcoming Day for first-year students on 28 January. More than 8 000 newly registered students and their guests were welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey. Ms Liesl van Eeden, a first-year student in Chemical Engineering, planted a tree that represents the year group.>Read more...
Tukkie Credit Card has been relaunched
The Tukkie Absa affinity credit card now has a new look and purpose. The new card, now a vibrant Tukkie-red, is still a normal Absa credit card (silver or gold) except that it offers alumni a convenient opportunity to show their appreciation for UP’s influence on their lives, careers and future, by giving back and investing in the future of UP without costing them a cent extra. >Read more....
Springbok coach a proud alumnus
This alumnus of UP is focused on achieving one goal: winning. “At this stage I only have one objective, and that is to prepare for our first test against England as well as possible. After that, the Boks will have to give their absolute best in every test they play.” These are the words of Laureate recipient, Heyneke Meyer, who was officially announced as South Africa’s new Springbok coach on Friday 27 January. >Read more...

Dr Nondumiso Mzizani, who completed her master’s degree in dentistry at the University of Pretoria, was last year’s winner of the Businesswoman of the Year Award in the Entrepreneur category. This is proven by the fact that both the current Mr South Africa and Miss South Africa are Tukkies. UP and hospitals lead the way with new agreement
A shared vision to improve the training of specialists in the country has led to the signing of a unique agreement between UP, the Netcare Unitas Hospital and the Steve Biko Hospital. This agreement will see specialist cardiologists from Netcare Unitas and Steve Biko hospitals become actively involved in the mentoring and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students in cardiology at UP. >Read more...
