The new Engineering 3 building and Parkade officially opened

The new Engineering 3 Building and parkade on UP's Hatfield Campus has been under construction for the past two years. It was officially opened on 25 August 2011 by Dr Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education and Training, and Prof Cheryl de la Rey, the University’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal.  UP invested more than R400 million in the construction of this innovative, environmentally friendly, multifunctional building.      >Read more...

Five alumni honoured at Laureate dinner 

Approximately 200 people were witness to this year’s Laureate Awards ceremony, where five UP alumni were honoured for their exceptional achievements. This year’s ceremony was held on 11 November at the Pretoria Country Club. The Laureate Awards were awarded to Dr Cecile Cilliers, Mr Moses Kgosana, Dr Willie Koen, Ms Nomfanelo Magwentshu and Prof John Skinner.       >Read more...

Dr Elmi Muller gives hope to HIV-positive patients

In 2008, Dr Elmi Muller, Tukkie alumna and surgeon at the Groote Schuur Hospital, together with her team, became the first person in the world to transplant a kidney from an HIV-positive donor to an HIV-positive patient.  When she entered the operating room, she was excited about the new lease on life that she could give this particular HIV-positive patient. Not for one moment did she expect that it would elicit such a reaction and grab the world’s attention.       >Read more...

President Zuma delivers public lecture at UP

President Jacob Zuma recently visited UP and addressed the staff, students, members of the diplomatic corps and invited guests on South Africa's foreign policy.  The address formed part of the Africa Dialogue lecture series, a platform that encourages engagement between students, academics and leaders of society.   >Read more... 

Move your body on campus

UP’s own wheelchair-friendly fitness trails on the Hatfield Campus were officially opened in October. Although there are plenty of universities abroad that have such fitness trails on their campuses, this one is a first for South Africa. Faculty of Education celebrates the completion of new infrastructure

After two years of construction, the Groenkloof Campus has take possession of some new, modern facilities. High-tech lecture theatres, an open-air amphitheatre next to the Groenkloof Dam, lifts, bathrooms, 121 computer workstations, science laboratories and infrastructure for the disabled are just some of the new additions.     >Read more...   


TuksRes receives international award

Prof Roelf Visser, Director of Residence Affairs and Accommodation, was awarded the President's Award of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) earlier this year.
