The number of postgraduate students is increasing every year and the strict selection processes allow us to accept only the best-of-the-best masters and doctoral students. We now receive applications from European students requesting specific supervisors in our Department and we are inundated with requests for collaborative projects from universities across the globe.
The number of funded research and training projects are now totaling millions of rands. These funds are channeled directly back to our students in the form of highly sought-after training courses and world-class opportunities for conducting research.
Furthermore, we are proud to have private practitioners who share their expertise in Educational Psychology by teaching part-time in the Department. The students grab these opportunities to learn more about the multitude of professional pathways that are opened up by qualifying in the field of Educational Psychology, learning support and career guidance.
We are also impacting on the Education sector with our distance education program in special needs education. Currently, for 2011, we have 2077 students enrolled in this program. These students are educators themselves, who go back to their classrooms, using the knowledge and skills obtained in the program and then supporting a diversity of learners in South African schools.
In 2003, our BEd (Hons) program in Educational Psychology was accredited for both psychometry and counsellor status training by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. This provides an exit-point for students who are eager to enter the field of Educational Psychology and who wish to make a substantial contribution towards psychological wellbeing in this country.
