Residence Facilities and Maintenance Management
A: Residence Facilities
Each residence is managed by a management team consisting of a Head of Residence, Coordinator: Residence Facilities and House Committee. The Coordinator: Residence Facilities handles all complaints pertaining to residence facilities (general defects and maintenance). They also handle all the internal (residence) administration and arrangements when guests are accommodated in the residences.
A.1. Cleaning Services
- This service is rendered by an external contractor.
- Students are responsible for the general neatness of their own rooms, cleaning of the rooms (supplying their own cleaning products), supply their own linen and make their own beds.
- Communal areas like passages, bathrooms, toilets, foyers, staircases, sitting rooms and under cover parking are cleaned on a daily basis (Monday to Friday) by the cleaning contractor.
- Students are responsible for their own washing. All residences have washing machines and tumbles dryers and students must provide their own washing powder, fabric softener etc.
- Skeleton staff is provided on Saturdays to remove dustbins and clean the bathrooms and toilets only.
- No cleaning services are rendered on Sundays and Public holidays.
- During the recess periods students are expected to leave their rooms in a clean and respectable state after evacuation.
- During the December recess all the rooms are spring cleaned.
A.2. Bus Services
- This service is rendered by an external contractor.
- Groenkloof Campus: daily (Monday to Saturday) to Hatfield Campus and back – click here for the bus schedule.

- Prinshof Campus (Medical Sciences): daily (Monday to Saturday; only during the first semester).

B: Maintenance Management
The division of Maintenance Management’s goal is to supply each student with a safe, comfortable home away from home, where each student can reach his/her academic goals (creating quality listening, living and learning communities). This division is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance in residences, as well as bigger projects (i.e. upgrading of residences).
We have a most competent internal Maintenance team who renders a 24/7 service. We are also being assisted in this endeavor by external contractors.
Maintenance related problems that a student might experience regarding his/her residence facility, must be reported to the Coordinator: Residence Facilities, who will get in contact with the necessary contractor for prompt reaction and repair.
During December recesses this division tackles major upgrading and maintenance projects in residences.
The Coordinator: Residence Facilities, Maintenance Officials and Contract Managers periodically inspect the residences and students’ rooms to ensure that the maintenance work done is up to standard and to ascertain where maintenance is needed.
