Two attorneys from the Law Clinic, Soretha Venter and Patricia Erasmus, attended the "Carnegie 3 - Strategies to Overcome Poverty and Inequality" Conference in Cape Town from 3 to 7 September 2012.

The title of their paper was "Strategies to Maximise the Effectiveness of Compulsory Pro Bono Legal and Ancillary Services in South Africa". The paper dealt with recommendations for the improvement and refinement of the current pro bono system in South Africa.
According to both attorneys, "the conference was a very valuable experience as delegates were exposed to extensive cross-pollination between different professions. Ideas were shared and conversations initiated around the very important topic of poverty alleviation. There was a practical focus and strategies formed the basis of the majority of the discussions".
