TuksClub 60+

Mission

Club 60+ is a social club which endeavours to unite all former Tukkies - 60 years and older - as a close unit and as a group, in order to promote the mission and objectives of TuksAlumni and the University of Pretoria.

Objectives

  • To promote and propagate the image of UP.
  • To organise functions and outings, to interact socially, and to allow an enrichment of knowledge to take place.
  • To organise get-togethers throughout the country.

The Club kicks off its programme each year with a customary spit braai. On this occasion the Annual General Meeting also takes place, and a new executive is elected. This year's executive is as follows:

Chairman:

Louis Cloete

Vice-chairman:

Prof Eggie Gerryts

Treasurer:

Mr Bert Badenhorst

Secretary:

Ms Elize Pretorius

Additional member:

Prof Somarie Grey

Highlights

Annual Kruger Park Experience: once a year all the 60+ members from the entire country get together for four days in the Kruger National Park. Usually more than 100 former Tukkies did their own thing by day, and in the evening enjoyed themselves around a communal braaivleis fire.

Club 60+ Community Project

Club 60+ also likes to give. The Club has selected a project for which funds are raised. This is the outreach action of UP's Department of Communication Pathology to toddlers with communication problems.
