Alumni golf club sponsors bunkers at Pretoria Country Club

The TuksAlumni Golf Club recently resumed its close association with the Pretoria Country Club when members of both clubs collaborated to collect the R90 000 required to cover the cost of changes to the first-hole bunkers at the Country Club.

The UP emblem will be displayed at the hole to acknowledge the sponsorship. The TuksAlumni Golf Club will be celebrating its 50th birthday in 2013 and will mark the occasion with a golf day and dinner on 2 March. The TuksAlumni Golf Club was founded in March 1963 by Messrs Bags Cilliers, Ted Boezaard and Tucker Vorster in the office of Mr Bags Cilliers, former Director of Public Relations at UP. The first golf tournament was held in November 1963 at the Pretoria Country Club. Since then the Alumni Golf Club championships, as well as the Alumni Golf Day and other alumni competitions, have been held there every year.

The Alumni Golf Club is sponsored by MiWay Insurance, with alumnus Rene Otto as its Executive Head. In April 1984 Mr Hancke Scheepers, former TuksAlumni Golf Club captain, awarded honorary membership to golf club legend Mr Tucker Vorster, who has played in all the club’s tournaments for the past 49 years.

* B division: Johan de Villiers

(Tucker is 89 years old and was a founding member of the TuksAlumni Golf Club 49 years ago. It is an amazing achievement to be able to play such a good round of golf at the age of 89.)
