Pre-conference SDI workshop at AfricaGEO

The Committee for Spatial Information (CSI) and the Centre for Geoinformation Science (CGIS) at the University of Pretoria are arranging a full-day workshop on spatial data infrastructures (SDI) in Cape Town on Monday, 30 May, the day before the AfricaGEO conference.

Presenters include Dr Derek Clarke (CSI Chair) on an SDI vision for South Africa; Mr Søren Rude on the social and economic benefits of providing the official Danish address data “free of charge” for public as well as commercial re-use since 2002; Dr Max Craglia on the return of investment of the European SDI (INSPIRE), as well as Dr Serena Coetzee (CGIS), Ms Marcelle Hattingh (City of Joburg), Mr Antony Cooper (CSIR), Prof Julian Smit (UCT), Mr Prestige Makanga (UCT) and Mr Daniel Sebake (Council for Geoscience).

There is space for 70 delegates at the workshop. Members of the Committee for Spatial Information (CSI) have preference. The balance of available seats will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis. To book a seat, please contact Ms Nolizwe Adams at nadams@ruraldevelopment.gov.za.
