Prof Frans Viljoen

(MA, LLB, LLD (Pretoria); LLM (Cantab)) 

 

is Director of the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, and academic co-ordinator of the LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa), presented by the Centre. His main research interest is international human rights law, with a particular focus on the African regional human rights system. He has published numerous articles dealing with international human rights law, and the book International human rights law in Africa (OUP, 2007).
Future research themes include:
the right to equality on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in an African context; and implementation and enforcement of international human rights decisions by domestic courts.
