Under the guidance of the Director, Dr DD Marais, the Department of Academic Administration is closely involved in the first contact with students. The activities of the Department vary from managing the enrolment process for contact and distance education students, to the awarding of degrees and diplomas during the graduation ceremonies
The functionality of the units for student administration located at the various faculties, is managed on a coordinated basis with the Deans ensuring innate quality measures. Operational service delivery to students in the Client Service Centre depends on effective data management and electronic systems, of which the Department has ownership. The internal postal service is also included in this Department's activities.
The Department is responsible for the archiving of the documentation of the meetings of Senate and its subcommittees. Academics are supported with programmes developed in accordance with governing national guidelines and criteria set out by the Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education. The results of these are documented in yearbooks, institutional rules and regulations that are regularly updated and incorporated.
By providing the annual timetables and calendars for the entire University, the Department ensures that academic programmes and official meetings are managed in an orderly fashion.
Services are driven by the needs of clients and interaction therefore takes place in a dynamic process where highly experienced programme managers handle all programmes of the Department.
