Prof RiëL CD Franzsen

is Professor and Director of the African Tax Institute, Department of Economics. In 1990 he obtained a doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, with a thesis on real estate transfer tax.
He has authored or co-authored numerous conference papers, journal articles and a number of textbooks on land and property taxes and has acted as an advisor to China, Indonesia, various African countries as well the World Bank on property taxation.
He is presently managing a joint research venture between the ATI and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy (based in Massachusetts, US). Working with research fellows from a number of African countries, they are mapping property tax systems throughout the African continent.
