Alumni

Alumni regions and local interest groups (Chapters)

The power behind alumni relations is the dedicated alumni who join local regional structures or interest groups or become contact persons in their home town or city. These groups are graduates in a city or town who support Tukkies and donate their time and energy to promote the University of Pretoria.

They assist Tukkies by providing information to alumni throughout South Africa, by supporting UP in general and by being ambassadors for UP. The TuksAlumni Office and the TuksAlumni Association wish to establish as many contact persons or interest groups as possible in regions. These groups also give feedback to the University to establish dialogue between UP and its alumni stakeholder group.

Contact the TuksAlumni Office for more information about a local interest group in your town or city or if you are willing to assist as a regional contact person.

Regional representatives and local committees

The nature and formal structure of regional committees differ from region to region. Local chapters in regions appoint a person to act as the regional representative. However, some regions have only one person as representative or convener.

Kindly contact the TuksAlumni Office (tel. 012 420 3086) or a representative in your region:

TuksAlumni Pretoria East branch holds first meeting for 2013

A meeting of the Management of TuksAlumni’s Pretoria East branch, under the chairmanship of former Judge William de Villiers, was held on 28 January 2013.

On this occasion, those present were addressed by Prof Ronny Webber, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering who, with infectious enthusiasm, elaborated on the exceptional success that his department has already achieved regarding alumni in the mining industry. Tuks alumni play an important role in nearly all the management positions of the important mining houses in South Africa. Currently plans are underway to establish a virtual mining laboratory on the campus with the generous assistance of alumni. This laboratory will make a valuable contribution to further enhancing the training of mining engineers at UP.

TuksAlumi’s Pretoria East branch was actually established with the specific aim of finding ways in which alumni would be able to support faculties and academic departments on campus. Deans and departmental heads who would welcome support from alumni are welcome to contact the TuksAlumi Management’s secretary, Ms Carin van de Wall, at carina@m2dc.co.za.
