UP Drama welcomes Fulbright Scholar

Prof Heidi Hoffer is a renowned American scenographer with years of international experience as a scene and lighting designer, and a scenic artist for the theatre. She obtained her MFA (Master of Fine Arts) from Northwestern University and is currently a Fulbright Traditional Scholar at the University of Pretoria Drama Department. In addition, she is a Scenic Artist member of USAA.
In the United States, Prof Hoffer has designed for Little Theatre of the Rockies, the University of Colorado, the American Theatre Company, Illinois Stage Company, Tulsa Youth Opera, Northwestern University, Creede Repertory Theatre and the University of Scranton, Northern Illinois University, Oklahoma State University, Texas Tech University, and Allegheny College.
Internationally, Prof Hoffer has designed numerous theatre, opera, and musical productions. Notable productions include “Picasso” at the Lapin Agile; “Urinetown” at PCPA Theatrefest; and a new play, “Moliere”, for the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
Her current professional work in South Africa includes running a lighting seminar at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg, and assisting Declan Randal in his lighting design for the new Winnie Mandela Opera at Pretoria's State Theatre. Academically, she is designing a production for director Pieter Brand for the University of Pretoria where she is teaching intermediate and advanced design courses. Prof Hoffer also guest lectures at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Pretoria as well as the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS).
