As an alumnus or alumna of the University of Pretoria, you belong to an ever-growing and unique network of Tukkies who leave their mark on society all over the world. Our alumni are our key products and the most important manifestation of UP's excellence. Stay involved with the University and TuksAlumni activities, make your voice heard about University affairs and, thereby, contribute to your Alma Mater’s good reputation. This ensures that your UP qualification remains sought after.
It has been a year filled with student and staff achievements and the University deems it important to recognise such achievements. The Bulgarian Academy of Science honoured Prof Jean Lubuma for his contribution to mathematical processes and modelling, and a young researcher of the University attended the Nobel Laureate event. The community newspaper of the journalism honours class excelled at the Faculty of Humanities Postgraduate Day, and a master’s degree student in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies received a prestigious award.
The TuksAlumni Office is constantly on the lookout for enriching opportunities to share with its alumni. Two special concerts were held in Kya Rosa, with Lightfoot Chazz and Jannie du Toit respectively. Various golf days were also organised for the benefit of the TuksAlumni Bursary Fund.
AlumNews is a feature in the TuksAlumni newsletter, where you can read more about the latest achievements of fellow alumni as reported in the media. TuksAlumni is proud of every achievement. Two sisters who studied at UP came second and third respectively in the MasterChef South Africa competition and three alumni artists, Tobie Cronjé, Lizz Meiring and Chris van Niekerk, were honoured for their contribution to the industry.
In what is undoubtedly a great honour, Hanneke Schutte, an alumna of the University of Pretoria, was the South African winner of the 2013 Jameson First Shot Short Film Competition and filmed her short film, Saving Norman, in Hollywood. The competition is presented by the famous actor Kevin Spacey, and his production company Trigger Street Productions.
The Alumni Relations Office (TuksAlumni) wishes you a restful holiday season and a prosperous 2014.
