On Saturday the 11th of September the University of Pretoria's 1st men's team had a duel with Vaal University of Technology (VUT) at the Portuguese Basketball Hall in Vanderbijlparkl.
It was a meeting of rivals and the venue was packed with expectant fans.
Immediately after tipoff, Vaal bolted off to an 8-2 lead. However: Tuks showed composure and resilience and came back into the game without panicking. Vaal used their guards to their full advantage early on as they launched a barrage of shots from the perimeter. This, coupled with their suffocating full court press defense allowed them to take a 16 point lead heading into halftime.
The Tuks team went on a surge fueled by their defence and rebounding and made it an 8 point game midway through the third quarter. However, Vaal rallied back and went on a surge heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tuks team played good basketball, and rebounded well for the whole game, but the aggressive defence by Vaal held them in check and at the final buzzer ,Vaal took the game 75-56.
