Research identifies positive parenting as critical mediator in HIV positive families

New research done in the Faculty of Education shows that positive parenting by mothers who are HIV positive is a very important mediator in respect of children’s ability to cope with their mothers’ illness. The research results suggest that interventions for women living with HIV, and for their children, should not only address maternal psychological functioning (depression and coping), but that it should also focus on parenting and promoting a positive approach.

Positive discourse needed around matric results

The 2013 matric pass rate of 78,2% was greeted with praise from some quarters, but with scepticism from others.
