Telematic Teaching/Distance Learning Methods

In 1997, the University of Pretoria introduced telematic teaching via interactive television broadcasts and the Teletuks learning channel on DSTV. Many of the University's faculties and departments have telecast lectures to students in various locations, enabling them via interactive facilities to interrupt the lecture to ask questions or request a detailed explanation of the educational material, when necessary. The School of Medicine was one of the first medical schools in South Africa to establish a telematic committee, as telematic teaching will form a significant part of future teaching in South Africa and abroad. Various departments in the School are already involved in telematic teaching. New programmes are continuously being developed.
