Department of Zoology & Entomology

Welcome to the Department of Zoology & Entomology

We are a highly productive research-oriented department with a strong focus on biodiversity, systematics and conservation of the southern African fauna, along with the classical disciplines of physiology, behaviour and ecology. There is a major emphasis on mammals from mole-rats to seals in the MRI, and also on elephants (CERU). Other research groups focus on restoration ecology, avian ecophysiology and molecular zoology. Entomological research includes dung beetles (SCARAB), honeybees (SIRG), and pest managment. Interdisciplinary environmental studies are based in CFES.

Use this website to find out more about the courses we offer and the research carried out by staff and postgraduate students.
