Welcome to the Forest Science postgraduate programme:
The Forest Science Postgraduate Programme is coordinated by the SAFCOL Chair in Forest Management. While the program aims to train postgraduate students to be proficient in forest science and management, the emphasis is on environmentally sound and sustainable use and management of forest resources.
The programme has a multidisciplinary approach and is therefore open to students who come from a diversity of backgrounds, ranging from biological and agricultural sciences to even social sciences. There are 2 master's options offered: the traditional master's of Forest Science by research and a new part taught and research MSc Option: Forest Management and the Environment. Students can also register for a PhD Degree in Forest Science in their chosen area of specialisation.

Rory du Plessis, Visual Cultural Studies lecturer in the University of Pretoria (UP)'s Department of Visual Arts, has just returned from a fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin. The awarded fellowship forms part of his interdisciplinary doctoral studies and was in the research cluster 'Encounters between Medicine, Literature, Philosophy and their Circulation in Public Debates'.
University of Pretoria celebrated Mandela Day in Hammanskraal - 22/07/2014
On Friday 18 July, staff from the University of Pretoria (UP) and members of the Morokolong community, Hammanskraal, converged at the Tshedimosetso Community Development Centre to celebrate Mandela Day. At the beginning of June, the Department of Facilities Management, in collaboration with the Department of University Relations, embarked on various projects to renovate the Centre.

Prof Birgit Kuschke is talking about an issue few lawyers in South Africa focus on. Kuschke is one of a handful of legal academics who are working on issues regarding insurance against environmental damage. Having already worked on issues around genetically modified organisms, electromagnetic fields and toxic mould, her attention has now shifted to the legal effects of fracking. While many have voiced concern about the grievous effects fracking has on the environment, such as water damage and the migration of pollution, few have discussed the massive legal and financial ramifications, especially for the insurance industry.
UP Choirs excel at World Choir Games - 21/07/2014
The UP Youth Choir and the UP Camerata Choir participated in the World Choir Games, also known as the ‘Olympics for Choirs’, that was held in Riga, Latvia, from 9 to 14 July. Both choirs performed exceptionally well, bringing back a total of five gold medals between them.
