Launch of The Mamelodi Voice 2012 editions
The Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature, the Honourable Ms Lindiwe Maseko, reminded students and school learners of the importance of education at the official launch of the 2012 editions of The Mamelodi Voice.

Two editions of this community newspaper, produced by students from UP Journalism, were launched on the Mamelodi Campus of UP on 6 November. The launch was attended by representatives of the Gauteng Legislature, who sponsored a special edition of the paper, staff members of UP, students who worked on the newspaper and people from the various community projects covered in the newspapers.

The event also featured poetry performances by learners from three local primary schools who took part in a competition for the Summer 2012 edition of the paper. These poems talked of the young learners dreams for the future.

This is the third year that UP Journalism students visited Mamelodi to report on the schools, community projects and people. The honours students will continue this reporting project in the future.
Copies of the newspapers will be available in the Journalism offices (22nd floor of the Humanities building) from the end of November.

Editors of the 2012 editions of The Mamelodi Voice Mart-Marié van den Berg and Danielle Petterson hand over the papers to the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature, the Honourable Ms Lindiwe Maseko.
