Background

The Journalism undergraduate programme was started as a BA Languages (Journalism) qualification at the University of Pretoria in 2002.

Until 2009 it was hosted by the English Department. In 2010 the Journalism Programme became a separate entity. Towards the end of 2009, two professional and academically-qualified journalists,were appointed to the Journalism programme.

They have extensive experience in all facets of journalism and have written for newspapers, magazines, various other publications, as well as the electronic media. They are still active in the field of journalism as freelance writers and researchers.

In 2012 the undergraduate programme was suspended and a postgraduate (Honours) programme was introduced.

The Journalism Programme is currently housed on the 22nd floor, Humanities Building.
