Emergency Services

The Outpatients Clinic of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital has a 24-hour emergency service for clients residing in the primary service area as described below. Where possible please telephone ahead at +27 12 529-8000. Alternatively proceed to the Faculty of Veterinary Science and telephone Outpatients from the security gate. Private veterinarians may refer emergency cases from outside the Onderstepoort primary service area if in their opinion it is essential to do so. The referring veterinarian should however first make telephonic contact with the duty clinician at Outpatients at the above number to discuss the case.

Primary service area

Direct access to the services of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital is afforded to residents living within the area north of the Magaliesberg, up to and including De Wildt/ Skietfontein in the west, Kameeldrif East in the east and Hammanskraal in the north. Persons living outside of this area must be referred to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital by a private veterinarian.

Fees

All fees charged within the Division: Veterinary Clinical Services, including the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, are formulated based on the costs of consumables and drugs, professional time and other input costs and fall within the recommendations of the South African Veterinary Association.

Payment

To enable us to render a professional service we request all our clients to carefully take note of the following payment conditions at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital:
Personal identification (ID book) is required for all visits. Payment in full for services rendered is required before or at the time of discharge of your animal.
Payment options include cash, debit card, credit card (standard or budget options), cheque, direct bank deposit or electronic transfer following prior arrangement with hospital administration. Should you have any queries in this regard, please consult the Hospital administration staff before your animal receives treatment.
