Overview

The Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria offers recognised high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in veterinary nursing and veterinary science.

The University Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipVetNurs; also referred to as DVN) is recognised by the South African Veterinary Council for registration as Veterinary Nurse which entitles the holder to practise the profession of veterinary nursing.

The BVSc degree of the University of Pretoria is similarly recognised by the South African Veterinary Council for registration as Veterinarian which entitles the holder to practice as a veterinarian. It is also recognised as such by the registering authorities in the United Kingdom, Australasia and Malaysia.

All MMedVet programmes offered by the Faculty are similarly recognised by the South African Veterinary Council and allows registration in the specific discipline as Veterinary Specialist and entitles the holder to practise the specialty if also registered as a veterinarian.

The academic activities of the Faculty of Veterinary Science usually commence early in January each year and end towards the second half of November. Academic semesters are of equal length (approximately 14 weeks) with recesses during Easter, July and December.

The Deputy Dean: Teaching and Learning acts as academic programme manager in the Faculty for all the academic programmes and is supported by staff of the section Student Administration. Contact details of the staff members are as follows:
