University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) beat Golden Arrows 1 – 0 on Wednesday night (22 August) at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Cleremont, Durban.
Coach Steve barker was delighted by the work his players put in, but also warned the players not to get carried away.

“We knew it was not going to be easy against Arrows, especially away from home. We needed to work very hard and put every bit of effort in to win the match. My players’ commitment was exceptional and we deserved the victory”.

Barker also expressed his satisfaction on the commitment the players have shown thus far.

“I am happy so far with the commitment of everyone in the team, but we have to remain focused and not get carried away by the win against Arrows”.

Courtesy of Mpho Maruping’s goal; a first year Sport science student at the University of Pretoria, has put AmaTuks sixth on the PSL log with four points. The goal came in the the 38th minute of the match, when Ramahlwe Mphahlele made a cross from the right flank into the centre of the penalty area where Maruping headed into the net.

Steve Barker “I don’t think people realise how important that first win is, It just gives you the belief that now we can win games in this league”.

AmaTuks play their next match at home on the 1st of September against Supersport United, the first Tswane derby at the Tuks Stadium; kickoff at 15H00.

Steve Barker added that it is important for the team to now remain grounded ahead of the clash against Supersport United.
