On Thursday, 12 April, TuksFootball hosted a lunch to congratulate eight of their graduates, but also to recognise Robin Swartz as the first recipient of the Kalamazoo scholarship.
The scholarship is an initiative of the University of Pretoria in the name of Dr Steve “Kalamazoo” Mokone. Dr Mokone is a former student of the Vista Campus, which is now the University of Pretoria Mamelodi Campus, and was added to the TuksSport Hall of Fame at the 2011 TuksSport Colours Awards.
The scholarship recipient, Robin Swartz, was the captain of the USSA Football u21 team which won the 2011 SAB u21 National Championships in Johannesburg. He is also the captain of the Tuks USSA men’s team and contracted to the first team “AmaTuks”. He already has a degree in sport science and is now studying a degree in psychology.
