TuksFootball : 'Queen' Simphiwe stunned by award

Simphiwe Dludlu could not believe it when she was named d Sportswoman of the Year at the annual TuksSport Awards Dinner.

The gala was held at the TuksSport Center on Friday (22 October) before Banyana Banyana’s friendly game.

Last year she was the finalist in the Student Sportswoman of the Year. She came from the national camp to receive her award.

“I’m extremely excited as I didn’t expect to be the best of 2010. I appreciate the recognition and support I receive at all times” said Simphiwe.

Since last year Simphiwe has been sharing the stage with the big guns during the 2010 FIFA World Cup draw which was held in Cape Town. She continued to be a columnist during the World Cup for Shoot.

In the current national squad she the mostly capped player and she will be leading Banyana Banyana during the African Women Championship (AWC) to start on Sunday, 31 October 2010 to be held in Ekhurhuleni.

“She has proudly represented TuksFootball in different spheres and has succeeded in reaching a balance between studies and football. it takes character and willpower to balance the two” said TuksFootball Manager, Kenneth Neluvhalani.

“As the first athlete within football club to lift the trophy we share the excitement. She broke the drought and I and hope that there is more to come and follow in her footsteps” continued Neluvhalani.

Since joining the TuksFootball women’s programme Simphiwe captained both the USSA and SASOL teams. She has also captained the Banyana Banyana several occasions

TuksFootball has asked all to support the women’s national team during the AWC.
