Jana Slippers (Boekenhout management), Emmerentia Nel (Web Office), Nuno Costa Mousinho (webmaster) and Henk Otto (house chairperson).
It is official - Boekenhout has the top residence website at the University of Pretoria. The residence won the award for its website in a fiercely contested competition ran by the UP Web Office in March.
The other finalists, selected by marketing guru and artist, Coenie de Villiers, were Kiaat, Taaibos, Asterhof and Onderstepoort. The winner was selected in an online competition where UP students could vote for their favourite of the five. The competition was initially launched after a university-wide training session with all residence webmasters.
The competition was extremely tough! The Web Office initially opened a poll where students could vote multiple times to determine the winner. However, after a record-breaking poll with nearly 2 million votes cast in only two days – nearly crippling the UP web server - , it became clear that residences were really pulling out all the stops! To be fair to all, the poll was zeroed and the system switched over to a single voting option. However, for their tremendous effort to rustle up 700 000 votes in the first poll, Asterhof won the team spirit cup. Taaibos took second place in the official competition.
Nuno Costa Mousinho is the webmaster behind Boekenhout webpage and is doing an outstanding job with his residence site. The site always carries interesting news & events, updated information and a good gallery where one can see what the guys have been up to. The standards are high and this is definitely a site you want to visit.
Nuno won a 2G Memory stick and a R200.00 Bookmark voucher for all his hard work.
