Welcome to the Department of Business Management

The Department of Business Management originated in 1927 and is the second oldest business management department in the country. It has always been a leader in this subject.

The Department has the following focus areas:

  • business management and strategic management;
  • entrepreneurship;
  • supply chain management (logistics);
  • international management;
  • e-business;
  • leadership.

Our competitive advantage is:

  • the qualifications are in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework objectives and philosophy;
  • all lecturers are highly qualified and have research experience;
  • lecturers are often required to provide advice and training programmes by trade and industry.

Findings of corporate governance research project released - 27/05/2013

The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership (ALCRL) at the University of Pretoria released its research findings on the state of corporate governance in South Africa on 22 May 2013. The research initiative was taken in partnership with the Institute of Directors in South Africa (IoDSA) and Media Tenor, supported by Ernst & Young and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), and looked at the development of the King Codes since the early 1990’s to the recent adoption of King III within companies.
