UP Arts utilises internal and external role players to expand and create sustained partnerships through the development of art, music, drama and heritage networks. Important role players are identified as private and public organisations, societies, associations and individuals, such as South African National Association of Visual Arts (SANAVA), the Tourism Forum, South African Police Services (SAPS), the Ceramic Society of South Africa, the South African Academy of Science and Art, Salon Music, the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa, the Pretoria Art Association, the National Heritage Council, the National Arts Council, the Department of Arts and Culture, the South African Museums Association, Sotheby’s and Christies and local, provincial and national governmental institutions.

The Department endeavours to highlight and implement both tangible and intangible heritage and culture in its outreach programmes for local communities and schools, to develop individual UP Museum Educator resources and to provide multilingual printed matter on cultural resources, exhibitions, stage productions and concerts for students, visitors, schools and the public in general. Through UP Arts the University of Pretoria is the only university in Southern Africa that is actively involved in protecting and safeguarding the illicit trafficking of cultural property by means of collaboration and advice to the SAPS Unit for Endangered Species. Productions and exhibitions by musicians and artists from disadvantaged communities are regularly mounted at the University, while many activities also cater for audiences in these disadvantaged communities.
