The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences has established a Centre for Leadership at the University of Pretoria. Prof Derick de Jongh is the director of the centre.
The aim of the centre is to advance responsible leadership through key research and teaching activities, and community service programmes. It will focus on advancing responsible and ethical personal and institutional leadership, and establishing academic networks through presenting lectures, conferences and workshops. Academic programmes will also be developed in order to build world-class leadership capacity in South Africa.
The centre will strive to position itself through academic excellence and research in South Africa and beyond. The interdisciplinary initiative and input from a wide spectrum of disciplines across the University of Pretoria will make this centre unique in South Africa. The Centre of Leadership will act as an umbrella for many activities across faculties that advance responsible leadership development at the University of Pretoria. The practice of leadership as presented by the Centre for Leadership is underpinned by the values of corporate citizenship and good corporate governance.
