The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership
The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership aims to develop a new generation of responsible leaders, shaping local and international business practices and policies in support of social and environmental justice.
Its strengths lie in its ability to harness the academic integrity of a variety of academic disciplines cutting across areas such as economic and management sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, law, engineering and humanities, to name a few.
Its legitimacy lies in its ability to respond to key issues in the field of corporate responsibility and responsible leadership.
Its relevance is determined by the extent to which stakeholders, internal (faculty at UP) and external (private sector, public sector and civil society), put a premium on the ALCRL’s ability to advance responsible leadership through relevant teaching and research interventions.
The African Union’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership (ALCRL) recently co-hosted a roundtable aimed at establishing a continental leadership transformation programme.
On 26 April 2013, Mr Anthony Makeketa, responsible for marketing and communications at the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsble Leadership (ALCRL), visited the Albert Luthuli Museum in Groutville to meet and interview Dr Albertina Luthuli, the daughter of Chief Albert Luthuli. The main objective of this historic visit was to interview Dr Luthuli on the topic of responsible leadership and also to explore the legacy of her father, Chief Albert Luthuli and how the ALCRL can contribute to his legacy through its academic and research offerings.
16 April 2013 marked a historic date in the development of the field of integrated reporting and more specifically the future of corporate reporting. Some experts argue that this date will set in motion an alternative for what is still today the dominant purpose of business, namely profit maximisation.
On 15 March 2013, the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership launched a Working Paper entitled “The Business & Biodiversity Leadership Landscape: Conceptual Foundations, Challenges, Opportunities,& Pathways for the Future”.
The Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership and the Department of Business Management were privileged to have hosted Mr Brand Pretorius during the launch of his book, In the driving seat, my leadership journey, on 12 March 2013.
