Members of TuksTriathlon showed their mettle last weekend in two triathlon competitions.
In the opening leg of the World Championship Series in Sydney, Australia, Richard Murray became the first African and South African to podium at a world championship series event by placing 2nd in a world-class field. Carlyn Fischer, a current Tuks student, finished in 60th position in the ladies’ race.
The Cross Triathlon African Champs took place in Hartebeespoort and forms part of the ITU off-road schedule. Two Tuks students and bursary holders, Nico Sterk and Rudolf Naudé, finished in 1st and 2nd position respectively in the men’s elite race with Theo Blignaut finishing in 4th place with the fastest run split of the day after four punctures on the bike. Both Theo and Rudolf are also hpc bursary athletes.
In the ladies’ race Carla Van Huyssteen stormed to a dominating display to win the ladies’ and finish 4th overall in the process. In the junior event TuksAcademy scholar and SRSA athletes Marlette Smit finished in 2nd position with Tuks team mate Charne Prinsloo.
We are all very proud of our TuksTriathlon members. Keep up the good work!
