World Cup: Roland show just carries on . . .

Posted on 12 November 2009

The Roland Schoeman show carried on Day 2 of the FINA World Cup event in Stockholm with him bagging a further silver and bronze medal in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke events respectively.

This he added to the 50m Butterfly gold he achieved on day one of the Stockholm meet. All in all after three of the FINA World Cup series meets completed, Roland has bagged a total of 5 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal, showing the South African public and the world to watch out come 2012.

And who knows maybe beyond.

One of the more exciting performances was that set by home girl and frequent HPC and TuksSwimming guest, Sweden's Theresa Alsheimer in the women’s 50m butterfly event.

The number of World Records and World Cup Records that have fallen during the first three legs of this year World Cup Series is astonishing.

"Man, I am glad that I don't have to pay the bill of $10 000 to each swimmer who breaks a World Record" said Steven Ball, TuksAquatics Manager and coach.

All in all there have been good showings by the South African male swimmers, and this was emphasised by the good performances of Darian Townsend, Neil Versfeld, Cameron van den Burgh and George Du Rand (who achieved a World Record in the 200m backstroke event in Moscow, a few days earlier).

So the World Cup show moves on to Berlin over the weekend, where we will look in anticipation to what TuksSwimming's Roland Schoeman and the other international superstars have in stall for us.
